Tuition Waiver for Purple Heart or Higher Award Recipients
A state university or community college shall waive undergraduate tuition for each recipient of a Purple Heart or another combat decoration
superior in precedence who:
(a) Is enrolled as a full-time, part-time or summer-school student in an undergraduate program that terminates
in a degree or certificate;
(b) Is currently, and was at the time of the military action that resulted in award of the Purple Heart or
other combat decoration superior in precedence, a resident of this state; and
(c) Submits to the state university or the community college
the DD-214 form issued at the time of separation from service as documentation that the student has received a Purple Heart or another
combat decoration superior in precedence.
Such a waiver for a Purple Heart recipient or recipient of another combat decoration superior in precedence shall be applicable for 110
percent of the number of required credit hours of the degree or certificate program for which the student is enrolled.

Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB), Chapter 30

Information
The GI Bill program provides up to 36 months of education benefits for
degree and certificate programs,
flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence
courses. Remedial, deficiency and refresher courses can be approved
under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for
10 years following release from active duty. This program
is also commonly known as Chapter 30.
Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP), Chapter 32

Information
VEAP is available if you first entered active duty between January
1, 1977 and June 30, 1985 and you elected to make contributions
from your military pay to participate in this
program. The government matches your contributions on a $2 for
$1 basis. This benefit can be used for degree and certificate
programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training
and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency and refresher
courses can be approved under certain circumstances.
Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR), Chapter 1606

Information
The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member
of the Selected Reserve, which includes Army
Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve
and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air
National Guard. This benefit can be used for degree and certificate
programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training
and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency and refresher
courses can be approved under certain circumstances.
Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP), Chapter 1607

Information
REAP was established as a part of the Ronald W. Reagan National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2005. It is a new Department of
Defense education benefit program designed to provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to
active duty in response to a war or national emergency (contingency operation) as declared by the President or Congress. This new program
makes certain reservists who were activated for at least 90 days after September 11, 2001 either eligible for education benefits or
eligible for increased benefits.
Survivors/Dependents Educational Assistance Program (DEA), Chapter 35

Information
DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible
dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled
due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active
duty or as a result of a service-related condition. The program
offers up to 45 months of education benefits. These benefits can
be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship and
on-the-job training. If you are a spouse, you can take a correspondence
course. Remedial, deficiency and refresher courses can be approved
under certain circumstances.
Vocational Rehabilitation and Counseling, Chapter 31

Information
Vocational Rehabilitation and Counseling is an employment program
to assist eligible veterans and dependents achieve maximum independence
in their daily lives, restore their self esteem and aid them in
becoming a contributing part of society. Under the Vocational
Rehabilitation Program, eligible veterans are assisted
in selecting a rehabilitation goal and developing an individualized
rehabilitation plan that leads to employment.
